just speculating …
just speculating here… why did amazon put the SD card under the cover? well if i had to guess i would say it has some thing to do with keeping dust out, avoid accidental ejections, besides how often does one switch a SD card?

Does it have a …
Does it have a remote, and is or will there be a coffee table version ?
I agree that they could jumpstart initial sales (and justify steep price tag) by throwing MP3 function (and columbia house record club — one million free songs for joining, etc.) onto it.

I think the …
I think the functionality on the device is pretty awesome, but I can’t stand looking at the thing. It feels like a device from 20 years ago. Looks like a toy. Please redesign it and drop the price to 199 and you have got me. How did this thing make it out of development with such a horribly designed exterior? Oh and get rid of the flimsy buttons.

OMG, seriously, I …
OMG, seriously, I wanted to wait until the new version of the Kindle came out with a better design, but after reading your post, I might just get it real soon. Your post is so true that it’s just an e-book reader. You opened my eyes and I will now be buying a Kindle nomatter how it looks because whether it’s ugly or not, not many people will have one or a different one to compare it to.
October 24th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
Who cares if its …
Who cares if its ugly? Its not a wardrobe accessory, its a ing e-book reader. I dont think ive ever seen a plumber or a carpenter say ‘zomg, what an ugly hammer, what an ugly wrench’. Its a /functional/ design, not an asthetic design. When you take into consideration the leather case, the shape makes sense, it helps it stay securely in the case when its closed.
Since i bought one of these, none of the review points really make any sense. It works, and it works well when actually used.

1) The ‘fugly’ …
1) The ‘fugly’ shape, was probably adopted to make it stand out, rather than just look like a 6 x 10 ipod. The fact that its fugliness is so very noticable makes it a conversation piece, and thats free advertising.
2) the sd card behind the battery cover makes some sense. Why expose a removable device, or the gaping hole it goes in, when you can cover it, and protect it from the environment
3) they should probably stiffen the action of the page turning buttons, but not reposition them.
