Benjamin Higginbotham of Technology Evangelist takes a look at the Amazon Kindle after 12 hours of use. More in-depth reviews as he uses it more and more will be coming.
who cares about … who cares about what it looks like? and i dont understand why everyone hates that its white..? personally, i think its an amazing device. its very smart.
just speculating … just speculating here… why did amazon put the SD card under the cover? well if i had to guess i would say it has some thing to do with keeping dust out, avoid accidental ejections, besides how often does one switch a SD card?
yeah I muted … yeah I muted background ground music, but video is informative…I just got my Kindle..I read an interesting polemic on Kindle, “Justifiable Homicide”..serious, funny, entertaining..author has captivating style.
h9kalyma, it has … h9kalyma, it has mp3 capability now. Just add them to the SD card and plug in headphones. You can read and listen to music. I have done it.
Does it have a … Does it have a remote, and is or will there be a coffee table version ?
I agree that they could jumpstart initial sales (and justify steep price tag) by throwing MP3 function (and columbia house record club — one million free songs for joining, etc.) onto it.
Thank you for … Thank you for responding. Only b/c min is coming in on Wednesday and I might want to read in the dark and i thought i made a mistake not buying the led light from amazom. Thank you
is there only a … is there only a certain type of led light you can buy that is for the kindle, or are your able to buy any other led light that you can buy in a book store like borders or barns and noble?
I think the … I think the functionality on the device is pretty awesome, but I can’t stand looking at the thing. It feels like a device from 20 years ago. Looks like a toy. Please redesign it and drop the price to 199 and you have got me. How did this thing make it out of development with such a horribly designed exterior? Oh and get rid of the flimsy buttons.
OMG, seriously, I … OMG, seriously, I wanted to wait until the new version of the Kindle came out with a better design, but after reading your post, I might just get it real soon. Your post is so true that it’s just an e-book reader. You opened my eyes and I will now be buying a Kindle nomatter how it looks because whether it’s ugly or not, not many people will have one or a different one to compare it to.
Who cares if its … Who cares if its ugly? Its not a wardrobe accessory, its a ing e-book reader. I dont think ive ever seen a plumber or a carpenter say ‘zomg, what an ugly hammer, what an ugly wrench’. Its a /functional/ design, not an asthetic design. When you take into consideration the leather case, the shape makes sense, it helps it stay securely in the case when its closed.
Since i bought one of these, none of the review points really make any sense. It works, and it works well when actually used.
For more … For more information on ebook readers search Youtube for iLiad, eReader, Cybook or Google up ‘Mobileread Forum’. Tons of information about all these devices. Kindle is not the only player in this game.
1) The ‘fugly’ … 1) The ‘fugly’ shape, was probably adopted to make it stand out, rather than just look like a 6 x 10 ipod. The fact that its fugliness is so very noticable makes it a conversation piece, and thats free advertising.
2) the sd card behind the battery cover makes some sense. Why expose a removable device, or the gaping hole it goes in, when you can cover it, and protect it from the environment
3) they should probably stiffen the action of the page turning buttons, but not reposition them.
