Sony is a better machine (better built, smaller, sleeker), but if you're going to legally buy books, amazon (kindle) has the better selection of books. All the readers use the same screen.

I have the Sony - it reads .doc, .txt, .pdf, .rtf, and I found a converter that changes .lit format (for kindle) into pdf. I have so many books - books I want, not just random books - that I don't know when I'll find the time.
