electronic reader

What will iPod do for its Act II? Is it possible that the iPod reader will be available soon? The Apple iPod to the market by storm and sold millions of units around the world and they will need another product soon to keep this going strong and there are many software developers who are looking to help themselves to future riches.

ebook readerPossible new iPod eBook reader? Very interesting developments on the horizon indeed; Imagine being able to download a blog, which would read to you? Like an audio book, but one of millions of e-books now available? Such a new development would turn the paper book market on its head, as more and more people would off for a bond yield e-books via iPod.

The iPod would have to have bigger screens to display the words, as well as audio features. This would be a great new advancement for those who cannot read and for those who are blind or partially sighted.

Recently someone let the cat out of the bag and to hold of a future iPod reader that was being developed and could soon come to market, which would change the world. http://www.tuaw.com/2006/07/22/next-ipod-an-ebook-reader/

Wouldn’t you like to have an Apple iPod reader for e-books when you are traveling or stuck in traffic? Imagine being on an airplane and just leaning back and thinking while the iPod reader read you an entire book or novel? That would be something and it may be in our future. Please consider all this in 2006

I am interested in buying one, but would like to know, if I would have to buy books from specific sites, or can I simply transfer ebooks from my computers hard drive onto the device to read it like a book.

-Thanks.

I own a Sony PRS-505 and am absolutely in love with it. Before, you had to use the proprietary Sony Ebook store, which only US residents could use, so that was a problem for me since I am located in Australia, but there's recently been a firmware update which makes it possible to buy secure Adobe and EPub files from other ebook sites.

Also, if the files that you have in your computer are .txt and .rtf or .pdf you can just load them to the reader with no prob. You just can't read mobipocket, Microsoft reader files and other proprietary files like that.

Check out http://mobileread.com

The Sony Reader forum is very active and has lots of great tips for use!

I love going to Barnes and Noble to buy books, CDs and magazines. In the next 5 years will they still be in business or go away like music stores did? Will electronic book readers catch on? Or will people still like reading paperbacks and going to the book store?

I hope book stores will be around for a long time.
Sony now has an electronic reader where you can download up to 150 book titles and read throuhg this electronic divice. The sony reader only has 2 hours of battery life. How could you take something like that camping or on an airplane?
I hate e-books. A book is something where you turn the page. Not an electronic device.

Music Stores haven’t disappeared. There are plenty here in MN, true music stores. Maybe it’s just where u are.

No, I don’t think book stores will ever go away. There are somethings that technology just can’t replace and that’s good old paperback. Book stores have so much variety, it would take a while for all of that to be transferred totally to technology. I love Barnes and Noble (actually js passedd one in the mall..lol) I love reading books and their r millions like us who wouldn’t dare be lazy enough to listen to a computer read a book for/to us!

What I have so far is about 6 books I picked out for him. They're all used (he usually buys used books because he reads them in about a week so it'd be silly to spend 15 dollars on one when he's done with it so quickly. Plus he's very practical. The books are…Two I just thought he may like and two came recommended from someone who has similar tastes and two I found from authors I know he likes. Then I made him a photo cookbook on shutterfly with all our favorite recipes and a bunch of pictures of him and I in it. Then I’m waiting on bookends I bought of an old tall ship (split into two to make each side of the book ends) (We took sailing lessons together that's how this applies). Is that enough? I've thought of getting him some cool electronic thing like one of those electronic book readers but i'm not sure he'd really want it and they're $260 so i want to be sure he'd like it. I feel like i should spend more on him but i don't want to go overboard either. I wish i knew what he was getting me so i could base it off that. A little about him: He's very smart, loves computers, loves to read, loves sailing and history. As I said he's practical so I don't want to get him junk. I love him like crazy so i'd buy him anything in the world, i just want to know he'll love it and be happy with it.

Thanks in advance for your help!

You Rock!
I think what you got him is great. It shows thought fullness and a great amount of effort to pick out the appropriate gifts.

As for the reader, save your money. You need to know what his thought is on the Kindle and the other e-book readers out there. If he appreciate's a good book, there's nothing like the feel of a book to curl up to. The e-readers also require you to pay for a subscription for the downloads so is that something he is willing to pay for.

Owners of the Kindle have some issues with them so there is always something they are not happy about with the reader.

A Voting system can be made tamper proof by keeping the initial count separate from the voters information.
Example:
A simple networked device that only counts when a button is pushed at any voting place. Then it issues a ticket with your count number on the ticket with no additional information.
Then you go in to vote with your ticket. The voting machine uses a barcode reader to read the number on your ticket. When you vote that number is put on your ballot as your identifier.
The machine must also print a copy of your ballot with this number on it to be put into a tamperproof ballot box. It also keeps an electronic copy of your ballot with your number on it to be counted electronically at the end of the day. When you are done voting you put your paper ballot into the ballot box. Then you put your ticket into your pocket and take it home with you as a permanent record of your vote.
At the end of the day the copies of all the electronic ballots can be sent to a central location.

Hi, I’m looking for a product that allows me to monitor my home’s electricity consumption. I’ve seen plenty of mini readers that allow you to see each appliance consumption, and I know I could be monitoring the meter the utility company has installed in my house. But honestly I do not understand those meters very much so I wonder if there is any other simpler solution out there?

Please when answering consider that I want to monitor my whole house consumption (mot just few appliances), and that I am aware that I may have to modify some of my current electric installation

you need to replicate the meter at your house exactly. This means adding new lines from the existing, to the new and from the new to your main breaker. It would most like sit just above your existing meter.

You have a contract that says the existing meter is the only meter that can be used for billing unless you can prove it is broken. To prove its broken you will have to set up an NIST traceable meter. NIST – National Institute of Standards and Technology.

what you may need is just a simple monitor that can be read inside like this one http://www.powermeterstore.com/p3528/the_energy_detective.php

I have a PS2 with a broken reader, you know, that thing that reads the CDs, the light is on, but somehow isn't not working.

I also have a laptop that's a couple years old and it's got that closable lid and one day, the screen started flickering and then the picture went out. Other than the picture flickering and going out, all the other computer functions work just fine.

I would hate to think that I can't get a little something out of a combined $600 of stuff here. I had this idea of hopefully making some money by selling this stuff who can fix it up, make it work fine, and I can get something for it.

I'm currently asking maybe $100 to $150 to sell them both.

Let me know.

Your best bet would be to list it on eBay. Be honest about what is wrong with the items too.

The laptop has a burnt out backlight. If you are in anyway handy with a screwdriver and a soldering iron you can fix it for less that $20.

You need to be careful. There is a Nigerian ring that uses skimming or use of an electronic credit card reader to get your information and steal your ID. I don't give my credit card to the waiter or waitress anymore. I just make sure I have cash before I go.
Wickwire – Scary isn't it?
Thanks for the links Sandwich!!!

Thanks for the info. From now on I'll pay cash. I've always heard to never let your card out of your sight and at most places the transaction occurs where you can watch. I never thought about restaurants that takes your card away from where you are. Great tip:)

I'm so tired of the way the world is spinning out of control. I want to go back to the good 'ol days.
