In his concluding address the Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi specifically condemned the electronic and print media for not giving coverage to the prestigious 33rd National games solemnized in Assam on a world class infrastructure and as a grand show…
TV channels were devoting their maximum time on reality shows, cinema, crimes, fashion etc… print media were filling their pages with cricket, tennis, big deals by NRIs and had a small corner of a page for this mega event…
Radio, TV and print media should have highlighted the national games as they do for cricket… the front pages of Indian news papers had lesser worth without the coverage of National Games during the last 10 days…
As a devout reader of news papers and viewer of TV I express my heartfelt pain for this blunder committed by the media…
You can give various answers!
There was the Indian cricket team to occupy the sports section! If they play well, that is news. If they don't play well, that is also news. If they do not play at all, that is good news!
Then there was sister Sania!
Then there was Advani, Vajpayee, Shilpa Shetty, etc. etc. etc.
Amidst all this, one should be surprised only if our media barons and brethren had taken all the trouble to visit a North Eastern state fraught with terrorists and other dangers to cover an event devoid of any glamour!
Probably, they might have covered had somethin gone terribly wrong there. Unfortunately, for the National Games, everything went smooth and well!
ok – so I have been trying to find out which is the best ebook reader but there is so much information flying around that I am none the wiser! I want to buy one as a present for my Dad so it needs to be simple to use and quite intuitive (and obviously, the cheaper the better). Any ideas?
I have a Sony Reader PRS-505 and absolutely love it. It looks stylish and is very easy to use. £200, so not sure if you’d count that as cheap.
Okay, what do you think of the selection of books, the price, of whatever one you have?
the sony e reader?
The ebookwise?
the kindle?
Researched all 3, well, there's 4 if you count the Cybook…
By far the best selection and pricing is the ebookwise. It's a one hit wonder. It reads ebooks. That's it. That's all. And it ain't all that fancy about it either. It just reads books.
The ebookwise books are anywhere from 20percent to 50 percent cheaper than the Sony mostly cause sony you are locked into the sony site for buying books.
And I ain't even THINKING about the kindle. Oh it's pretty sexy and cool as all hell, but the books?
ONLY amazon, and oh my sweet Jesus.
The books on Amazon for the Kindle are as much or MORE that at borders!!!!
400 bucks for the damn thing and the books (what books there are and believe me there ain't that many!) are MORE EXPENSIVE THAN AT A BRICK AND MORTAR STORE!!!
What a rip off.
This is one face of electronic media showing how some amongst the media reporters stoop down to the extent of taking revange from the persons who do not sccumb to their blackmailing. Inside story of many media personalities is similar to this to a varying degree . Some extort smaller benefits while others hanker for bigger gains out of the way and if not obliged ,turn hostile and start taking revenge by defamatory publishings. Hope readers agree.
If the events and what all happened,as we were shown in the media is true, it is a pity that how some people in media manouvre the media to their advantage, but to the great risk and reputation of the teachers like Uma Khurana. Misrepresenting and blowing the things out of proportion, causing disrepute and irreparable loss to an individual beyond redemption all are greater crimes than murder. Many in media resort to this type of cheap gimmicks. It is good atleast such fake and superficial media men are behind bars.

Virtual Laser Keyboard
Does anyone know how much memory it holds? How does it power? How meny words can be typed? And anything that can help…thanks
___
You can use the VKB (Virtual PC Keyboard) with your laptop, desktop PC, and compatible mobile device, Smartphone or PDA.
The virtual laser keyboard (VKB) works by using both infrared and laser technology to produce an invisible circuit and project a full-size virtual QWERTY keyboard on to any surface. The keyboard behaves exactly like a real one: direction technology based on optical recognition enables the user to tap the images of the keys, complete with realistic tapping sounds, which feeds into the compatible PDA, Smartphone, laptop or PC.

CyberPad Electronic Writing Tablet
Does it go onto your computer as it were typed? What kind of paper must you use? Thanks
The CyberPad is an electronic writing tablet that records handwritten notes. With special handwriting recognition software, it translates them into clear, definitive documents that can be seamlessly uploaded to any PC. The Cyberpen digitally captures and stores everything you write or draw with ink on ordinary paper. It is easy to use. Clip any piece of paper onto the pad and then take notes using the Cyberpen. You can easily view, edit or e-mail your handwritten notes right from your computer. The CyberPad includes 32MB of internal memory, which provides 26 directories (A-Z) with 99 pages available in each. The system is further expandable with the integrated SD slot, which can also function as an SD card reader. The CyberPad connects to a PC via a USB port.
It does not have any memory hold space in the VKB. It just transfer direct all the information that you send.
It is power by rechargable battery. You can charge it whenevr the battery low.
Yes, you will need to conect to the a system whenever you use it. It is just a input device for another system.
You can type as many words as you want as it just transfer all the letter you type.
what do you do during the day just walk around taking numbers reading meters from the gas station is it hard? does the day go buy fast or is it real boring?also i heard that it is electronic now like you scan something and it reads it for you is that true did you have to crawl under anyones deck or go in anyones basement? do you have to take a test to get the job thanks for your help
It all depends on what you are reading. Is it gas, electric , water ? I run the meter reading operations for the state of Kentucky as well as Ohio for the gas company ( and I still enjoy getting out and reading) and most of us have the new G5 hand helds by Itron although most of my guys/gals in the southern part of Kentucky still use the older Husky Itrons . The older hand helds can not read remote meters . The G5's can read the remote meters , however , you still have to get within range of the yard to read them and in some cases , you might even have to get into their yard as the signal might be bounced .
The rate in which your day goes by greatly depends on the meter reader. I have some people that have routes that they can have done by 11 am and other days it might take them until around 4 pm . Mainly depends on how fast you want to work and of course the weather. If it's colder outside some might want to get a nice hot breakfast before they start.
As for you asking about "crawling under anyones deck or go in anyones basement" the answer is yes. A lot of meters are still inside and one must obtain access in order to get a read . This is part of the job my friend and there is no way around this. That said, it also depends on where you live and such because of a lot of the utility companies in bigger states and something like 95% of outside meters, thus making the meter reader's job a whole lot easier.
Now to answer your question regarding taking a test to get a job, well, I am sure the answer is yes . Most will always take some sort of basic meter reading test as well as map reading test. This will give the employer some sort of idea as to where they can start with you . Though, you will always have to go through the companies training program . I have hired hundreds of people that did not have any experience. Meter reading is more of a " hands on " type job.
Our average reader probably makes around $18.25 and hour , however, we do have some that make in the mid twenties and even higher , it just depends on how long one stays with the company and if they really enjoy this type of job.
In closing, you should check with your local utilties to see if anyone is hiring or not . Also, make sure to list with your local employement agency that you are interested in doing this type of work. I enjoyed reading meters and still do . It has provided me with a nice life and helped to keep me in good shape. I hope this helps you and gives you a bit more insight on the subject. If you have anymore questions , please feel free to email me . Good luck to you!
One of the poems that was read was "Fleurs du Mal" but I believe it was read in English so it may have been called "Flowers of Evil". The reader was a woman. The background was electronic sound effects and/or music and, at least some of the time, the woman's voice was electronically distorted. It was beautiful and strange and quite literally enchanting.
This sounds like the recording at the cited source. Good luck.
Every time I go to a library book sale people are always typing something in on their phones and pulling certain books or scanning the barcode with some sort of reader. what are they doing and no they arent the employee's of the library or sale.
Also i tried asking the people but they wont tell me.
It will be interesting if the Volunteer Groups will begin banning such devices that may even be tapping into Library Wi-Fi zones to send internet queries once the device scans an external printed ISBN off the back of a book cover or paperback bound cover. You're right that the users of such devices get defensive and even verbally abusive if you ask them what they are doing because in no uncertain way they are "poaching" where regular book sale patrons do not get outside cues as to which used books to bring back to those who are interested in the used materials. Probably there is a certain kind of thieving going on.
