I just can't read things that are on a computer screen for longer than about 2 minutes. I was thinking about getting something like a Sony Reader but am wondering if I'll actually feel right sitting there and reading off one.
The e-Ink readers like the Sony Reader, Kindle and iLiad are not hard on the eyes the way a computer screen is–they don't project any light. (So you also can't read them in the dark.) They look very much like paper.
There's a half-second or so transition between pages that most people get used to very quickly, but if you think you might not, you should find a way to borrow or test one first.
You should also consider filetypes–not all readers read the same types of ebooks, so you'll need to think about where you'll be getting them from. If you mostly plan on buying them, check out online ebook stores to see what's available; if you plan on getting mostly free ebooks, you probably want something that reads PDF and epub, because those are very common formats. (None of the e-Ink readers are great with PDFs, but some are better than others.)
ebooks for my new sony ebook reader?
list only working sites please !
do you know how to redeem the 9 free books?
ok so i know that a person can download EBook in pdf format from many Torrent websites but some of the ones that i have found are www.thepiratebay.com and www.demonoid.com with demonoid you will need to sign up. it is fre to do so however they do not allow you to join every day. they sometimes open the sign up days so you will have to just keep looking. as Well you will need something like Utorrent to download. i am having the same problem as the book that i need is not available in my area. but i know right now the SONY ebook store is giving away 9 free books. and they are not the ones included in the 100 free classics. i hope that this helps. if you find something amazing let me know i am interested in this as well as most of the books i want are not available in my area.
happy reading
Danielle
I want some kind of a device which can help me read e books. So i thought of buying an e book reader and then i thought y not an i phone then you could read e books and plus have lot more functions for a similar price…….and now i need your opinion………plzzzzzzzzz help me…iphone or e book reader???? the disadvantages of both and the advantages of ‘em. and of course if its an ebook reader wots da best e book reader?kindler or sony e book reader??
Pleaassseeee I NEED ur help………
thanku very much
well, if you love books a lot, than an ebook reader should be the best option. The apps like ’stanza’ are very good on the iphone. Clasics like war and paece are available, and you can change the size of the text to your convenience. However,in my case, I tend to flick the imaginary page about every 10 to 20 seconds, because there are’nt that many words on a single page. It’s not the best, but it’s quite good. I would stick with the iphone coz i like havin the other apps and music (of course).
instead of goin for a plain e-book reader, you should rather go for a netbook. They’re relatively new and every company is launching there own version of a cheap portable laptop. You can even get one of them on contract …(http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/231366/dell-inspiron-mini-9.html) or this one could be another choice …(http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/215688/advent-4211.html).They are not high-end laptops and there are many other ones by companies, mainly such as ‘asus’ and ‘eee’, which have made the most famous netbooks. They Cost around £250, they even start from £100. They are quite sturdy and good.
Hav fun
I know it's a fairly new technology. I've been wanting to get one for ages especially since I'm going to be travelling a lot in the upcoming year or even years.
I'm crazy about reading books especially ebooks since it's easier to throw them out when I don't like the story line.
Are there any cheap alternatives for the sony reader or the amazon kindle? I must admit that spending 400 dollars is a bit to much for me.
The Sony Reader can be as little as $200 (which is still a whole lot of money) because of various Christmas sales.
There aren't any eInk readers cheaper than about $250 retail, although you can sometimes find them cheaper on eBay. The Ebookwise 1150, however, is currently selling for $99. It only reads one format, but it's easy to convert most other ebooks to that format, and MobileRead.com has a forums devoted to free ebook downloads.
You can also read ebooks on most PDAs and some cellphones, but not everyone likes reading on a 2" screen. If you do (I loved it until my Cliés died), you can get software like eReader or mobipocket to read on a Palm system, or Microsoft's reader for a Pocket Windows system.
im 15, and love reading. is it for more older epople, or can you get teenage books downloaded onto it.
how do you even get a book onto it to read, and do you have to pay if you want to get a book onto it?
please help mee x
http://www.mobileread.com has forums, a wiki, comparisons of ebook readers, and lots of free downloadable ebooks. They are happy to answer a lot of questions!
I have a Sony Reader (the PRS-505). You can get books from the Sony bookstore (which is hard to work with, and the books are often not well-formatted), from other pay-for-ebooks sites like fictionwise.com and manybooks.net.
In order to get them from the computer to your Reader, there's a couple of different ways. You plug the Reader into the computer with the cord (they give you one with the Reader, and it's a standard size connector so lots of people already have them), and the Reader shows up as a disc drive–you can just drop the books into the "books" folder in that drive, or you can use special software, like the Reader's eBook Library program, or Calibre (both are free downloads) to help manage & sort your ebooks into collections.
A lot of recent & popular books have to be paid for; many older books are available as free downloads. And some new authors are releasing their books as free ebooks, because they think free ebooks will encourage people to buy the paper book. (If you read it on the Reader, you probably won't buy it for yourself–but if you really like it, you might buy it for a friend, or tell someone about it, who might buy it.)
I want to download ebooks for my sony ebook reader but want to find a good source of old material especially out of copyright material which should be free (legally).
Wow, this seems to be a question everyone is asking, well honestly, no sane person would hand out copyrighted material for free, why? because they want to make money, so yes you can download copyrighted material and yest you can download it for free, will it be legal? no, so just debate this, do you want it to be legal, or do you want it to be free? if you want it to be legal, you have to buy it, or if you want it to be free, torrent it, Google is your friend.
I have failed to sucessfully download Ebooks onto my Sony Ericsson W750i which is a non-smart phone. I think I need to download the Java (Rar) format but I'm unsure because the ones I have tried haven't worked? (Although I'm unsure if I put it onto my phone correctly) Do I need a Reader? If so, what type? and can any one recommend a good ebook site? Many Thanks.
This sounds like it could resolve the issue… Many Many Thanks.
You can read plain txt files by putting them in the "others" folder or look here
http://www.deep-shadows.com/hax/ReadManiac/download.htm
After installing .exe file into PC run 'ReadManiac Builder Wizard'. Then select 'Standalone application (RealManiac FULL)' -> 'Build midlet for the specified phone: Sony Ericsson K750i ' -> 'Sony Ericsson phones keys config' -> select desired interface language -> select ZIP support or not -> select fonts -> FINISH
amazon to a sony ebook reader thingy……my mum has 1 and she wants to learn how to download a book off amazon…and on the ebook thing so how do u do that
Transferring e-books. Advantage, Amazon — by a mile. Kindle does not require a PC connection. You can buy books when you're out and about. Amazon's Whispernet wireless network lets you fetch content from the Kindle Store in under a minute, including book samples. Kindle employs Ev-Do, the speedy technology used in some cellphones; you pay no fees. If you're not in Ev-Do coverage, Kindle uses a slower network.
With wireless on, Amazon says you must charge the device every other day. While off, you can go a week or more between charges.
Sony might add wireless down the road. For now, you connect the device via USB to a Windows (MSFT) XP or Vista PC, then drag and drop purchased content from the Connect store onto the Reader — nowhere near as convenient as Kindle. (Sony's software doesn't work with Macs. (AAPL)) You can read books on the computer. Of note, Kindle also uses a USB transfer for audiobooks and
Right now, I'm in a country where any electronic gear is a bit overpriced. Without considering what might be available in my particular (undisclosed) location:
What is the cheapest eBook reading solution available?
I found a site with LOT of free eBooks (ones which don't look horrible) and I would like to take advantage of the English titles which are hard to find here.
I considered my phone, but have not found an ebook reader, plus the screen would be a pain to read anything long on.
The Sony book reader, and the iLiad eReader are both VERY expensive, even in the States.
What about a palm? An old model palm or other pda? One that is easy on the eyes?
All suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks for answering
Buy any Pocket PC / Windows Mobile 2002, 2003 2003SE or 2005 (WM5) device (they are pretty cheap on eBay). You can install Microsoft Pocket Reader for free - and there's THOUSANDS of free ebooks available online. It's a GREAT reader program - you'll never know how you did without it. Microsoft also supply a free plug-in for Microsoft Word that allows you to create ebooks from Word documents. Listed below also
If yes where can i get the ebook reader for the same?
It would require a java application for reading pdf files. However, there are none available that work with the K750i.
