Sehr informativ. Langsam wirds interessant

    Wow, what’s a …
Wow, what’s a warranty worth if it doesn’t cover a part of the device that stops working within a week? Unless it WAS broken … but you say it WASN’T – so that’s strange and surely not what you would expect for a device that cost you about 300+ euros …

    I bought a Cybook …
    I bought a Cybook Gen3 from Booken.

In less than a week the display stopped working. The unit had not had been dropped, hit, or damaged in any way.

Booken declined to repair or replace the unit under warranty stating, “the warranty does not cover broken parts”.

They offered a repair for 100 Euros plus shipping. I suspect this is about their cost for a new unit.

The product seems good, but reliability seems to be an issue. The company ethics also seems to be a major problem.

    Thanks for the …
Thanks for the comment. Battery power is actually one of the device’s strengths (as with any other E-Book reader that uses e-ink technology (since it does not have a backlit interface). I have had the thing 3 weeks and used it every day – without recharging once! The black flashes are used to reset the screen. You can turn it off in the settings, but you’re then very likely to be left with ghost images on the display.

Looks really comfortable to read off of – looks like paper almost. The black flashes seems a bit weird though, I’d imagine they drain unnecessary amounts of battery for each time it does that – how long does the batteries last in the first place though? For example, can you finish an entire book, like your average Harry Potter type of book, before you have to recharge?

Really great, well thought out and well executed review. Even though I don’t speak German I found it very helpful and informative because the key functionality was demonstrated very clearly in the video. Danke!
