I know it's a fairly new technology. I've been wanting to get one for ages especially since I'm going to be travelling a lot in the upcoming year or even years.
I'm crazy about reading books especially ebooks since it's easier to throw them out when I don't like the story line.
Are there any cheap alternatives for the sony reader or the amazon kindle? I must admit that spending 400 dollars is a bit to much for me.
The Sony Reader can be as little as $200 (which is still a whole lot of money) because of various Christmas sales.
There aren't any eInk readers cheaper than about $250 retail, although you can sometimes find them cheaper on eBay. The Ebookwise 1150, however, is currently selling for $99. It only reads one format, but it's easy to convert most other ebooks to that format, and MobileRead.com has a forums devoted to free ebook downloads.
You can also read ebooks on most PDAs and some cellphones, but not everyone likes reading on a 2" screen. If you do (I loved it until my Cliés died), you can get software like eReader or mobipocket to read on a Palm system, or Microsoft's reader for a Pocket Windows system.
